These RNAs have an endonuclease function, and most often are autocatalytic. Structurally it is composed of three base paired helices, separated by short linkers of conserved sequence. These helices are called I, II and III. We have classified hammerhead ribozymes into three types based on which helix the 5' and 3' ends of the sequence join. This family are the type I hammerheads. The conserved uridine-turn links helix I to helix II and usually has the sequence CUGA. Helix II and III are linked by a sequence CGAAA. The cleavage reaction occurs between helix III and I, and is usually a C. Hammerhead ribozymes are found in plant viroids and other small replicating satellite RNA species. Hammerhead ribozymes have been found in animals as well as plants.", "curation": {"author": "Bateman A", "seed_source": "Bateman A", "num_seed": 29, "num_full": 324155, "num_species": 93, "type": "Gene; ribozyme;", "structure_source": "Published; PMID:9632772"}, "cm": {"build_command": "cmbuild -F CM SEED", "calibrate_command": "cmcalibrate --mpi CM", "search_command": "cmsearch --cpu 4 --verbose --nohmmonly -T 22.88 -Z 2958934 CM SEQDB", "cutoffs": {"gathering": 34.0, "trusted": 34.0, "noise": 33.9}}, "release": {"date": "2026-01-16", "number": "15.1"}, "clan": {"acc": "CL00010", "id": "Hammerhead"}}}
